Literature Text

As sprightly Springs wilt into sweltering Summers,
Schoolchildren simmer in expectation.
Something stirs within the fold.
A student steams; the fuse is lit.
Pop!

The Summer Dance begins anew,
With projectile plans flying up to new heights,
Perilously Protected by that metal dome.
Pop! Pop! Pop!

Popcorn's ready.
The last few days of school are like the final moments when you're cooking popcorn in the frying pan. The oil is hot, the kernels are raring to go, and then everything goes to Hell in a hand-basket.

Can someone tell me why I took a perfectly good poem and made it about "people = popcorn"?

Because it's a great comparison? (I think so, at least.) I've spent so much time with little kids over the past year and this reminds me of watching them. They've be sitting on minute and BAM! they going running off after something.

Any way, I love the second stanza (especially the second lines.) Sometimes I feel like my thoughts are always bouncing around and the only thing that keeps them from spilling out onto to floor is my aching skull. I also like the last line, since it reminds me of how kids (and adults) tend to collasp in a heap after extending so much energy.

Great piece, thanks for sharing!
